Jo Bush Speaks at Ladies’ Luncheon

Jo Bush Jo Bush The Ladies Luncheon at Colquitt United Methodist Church is next Wednesday, October 17, at noon. It is a community-wide event open to all women who want to fellowship with other Christians and be inspired through enlightening and entertaining programs featuring speakers and music.

Last month’s presenter at the Ladies’ Luncheon was Jo Bush, who focused on The Rapture and the scriptural basis for it. She divided her comments into three parts: “The Day of Christ,” “Great Gittin’ Up Morning,” and “Midnight Cry.” She explained the word, “rapture,” originated in the Greek word, “Harpazo,” which means to seize or carry off by force, and “Rapere,” Latin for to snatch, grab, or take away.

Old Testament Bible verses cited included Genesis 5:21-24, Genesis 6, 7, and 8, Genesis 19:29, II Kings 2:11, 12, and Zechariah 14:4. “And Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him” (Genesis 5:24) is an early reference to a person going directly to Heaven without dying.

According to Mrs. Bush, in the New Testament, references to The Rapture can be found in the gospels of Matthew and Luke (Matthew 24: 30, 36, and Luke 21:35, 36). She also described to her listeners how The Rapture will occur based on I Corinthians 15:50-53: “Behold, I tell you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet: for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality.” Her other supporting scriptures from the New Testament were Acts 1:9-11, 1 Thessalonians 1:10b and 4:13-5:1-11, Revelation 19:11 and 22:20.

In addition to this fascinating program, those in attendance shared a delicious array of salads and desserts with the tables and fellowship hall decorated in a fall motif, compliments of Elaine’s Florist.

The speaker for next Wednesday’s Ladies Luncheon will be Brenda Adams, the wife of Rev. Don Adams, who will be Colquitt UMC’s fall revival speaker. All are invited to the revival, which runs October 14-17, and to hear Brenda at the October 17 Ladies Luncheon. Bring a salad for everyone to enjoy and bring a friend or two!
