The Alpha Omicron Chapter of the Georgia (Psi) State Organization of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is proud to welcome new member Kristan Barker Houston of Colquitt. Kristan is a special education teacher at Miller County Middle School.

An impressive initiation ceremony was held during the regular chapter meeting on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the PeoplesSouth Bank Community Room in Colquitt. Jo Davis, Chapter President, presided over the ceremony. Other ceremony speakers included Sandra East, Chapter Membership Chair; Kay Fleet, Chapter Recording Secretary; and Dot Nickoley, Chapter Vice President. The new initiate pledged her support to The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International by signing the official chapter registry. She was then presented with her membership certificate and a long-stemmed red rose, the DKG flower.

Following initiation, a Recommitment Ceremony was held to bring attention to the beginning of the chapter’s 2018-2020 biennium. President Jo recognized those present by their date of initiation, beginning with the earliest initiation of Pat Kirkland on April 1986. Attendees repeated their commitment to the Society, and a red candle was passed from member to member, symbolizing that it takes every member to keep the chapter’s beautiful sisterhood burning bright. The ceremony ended with the DKG song.

Alpha Omicron members present were Sherri Newberry of Arlington; Brenda Wade of Bainbridge; Jo Davis of Blakely; Tina Brooks of Damascus; Jan Calhoun, Sandra East, Cissy Eldridge, Kay Fleet, Dr. Debra Jones, Becky LaGuardia, Dr. Gail Lovering, Dana Nunnery, Debbie Sloan, Renée Spence, Tammy Vann, Suzanne Wells, and Lori Williams of Colquitt; Dottie Chandler, Pat Kirkland, Dot Nickoley, Kim Orrick, Martha Register, and Mandy Roland of Donalsonville.

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is an honor society for women educators with more than 75, 000 members in 17 countries. Membership is by invitation only and is extended to those who have distinguished themselves as respected professionals in the education field.
