On Tuesday, July 31, 2018, Chief of Police Hollis Smith responded to an alert about suspicious activity near Ameris Bank. He noticed a man fitting the description given to him running away from the bank, and then he saw the man driving a silver Dodge Ram. Officer Hollis pulled the truck over for a traffic stop, where he discovered that the man, Michael T. Cox, was driving with a suspended license. Cox was also given a Breathalyzer, at which point he was arrested for driving with a suspended license and for D.U.I.


On Monday, July 30, 2018, Officer Whitehead responded to a walk-in at the police department. Bradley Grant stated that on July 30, a female driver hit his car in the parking lot of Food Mart. Grant was in the store at the time and was told by someone else that his vehicle had been hit. Grant said that when he went to check on his vehicle, the other driver was attempting to flee the scene. There was moderate damage to the front right side of his vehicle.

An officer was later called to the scene, but as both vehicles had moved, there was no accident report.



On Friday, July 27, 2018, Officer Spence pulled over Destiny West for speeding. When Officer Spence was advising West as to why she was being pulled over, he noticed an odor of marijuana. Marijuana was found in West’s purse, and scales were found in her console. West was booked on the charges of speeding and possession of marijuana.
