Mrs. Eunice Davis Cook (Sis), age 94, of Colquitt died Thursday, July 26, 2018, in her home. Her funeral service was held Saturday, July 28, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Cook’s Union United Methodist Church where she was a Charter Member.

Sis was born and lived her entire life in Miller County. She studied at Griggs School and was a graduate of Miller County High School. Sis grew up on a farm with her parents, Carl and Ada Mae Davis, and her siblings, Carolyn Cooper and Hunter Davis. She also had a double first cousin, Sammie Davis Turner, who was like a sister to Sis and her siblings.

Sis said times were hard when she was a young girl during the Depression, but their family never knew it because there was always plenty of food for the family and extra to share with the neighbors. In addition, there was always an abundance of love for each other in the Davis family. Sis, her parents, and siblings were members of Flat Creek Baptist Church.

In 1945, Sis married the love of her life, Dole Hamilton Cook. Sis and Dole had the following four children: Dole Hamilton Cook Jr., Sheila Cook Williams, Cynthia Pam Long, and Rex Link Cook. Dole and Sis Cook farmed all of their lives in the community of Cooktown until 1987, at which time Dole passed suddenly in their home. Sis was with him on that infamous day, and she felt that her world had come to an end. In a way it had, and her children stated that she told them, “I have many beautiful memories of a very, very happy marriage. Now all of you go home, and make your own good memories.”

Sis was very active as a Sunday School teacher at Cook’s Union United Methodist Church. The two most important things in Sis’s life were God and her family. She was an humble woman, and she was always the first to admit that she was not perfect. She wanted her four children and their families in church every Sunday to honor the Sabbath, but most of all she wanted them to believe in God so they could one day all be together in Heaven. She always beamed with pride when the different Methodist pastors shared with her about her children being active in church. Sis was an honorable wife and mother who always did what was right for her husband and their four children. In addition, she loved her daughters-in-law like daughters and sons-in-law like sons. Her seven grandchildren and her six greatgrandchildren also brought so much joy to her life.

Sis is survived by her children: Dole Cook Jr. and his wife, Terri; Sheila Williams and her husband, John; Pam Long and her husband, Carl; and Rex Cook, and his wife, Donna. Sis’s grandchildren are John Williams Jr., Trey Long, Hamilton Cook, Josh Williams, Taylor Cook, Carla Long Alday, and Jarrett Cook. Great-grandchildren are Ty Long, Gracie Williams, Fletcher Long, Sutton Alday, Ava Williams, and Drew Alday.

Colquitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
