The New State Theater

The old theater has a brand new look. The old theater has a brand new look. The east side of the square in Colquitt now has a brand-new look and a completely renovated building that has been an icon of the downtown for many years.

The old “State Theater” building, which was owned by the Hunter Family and operated for years as a traditional movie theater, sat empty for several years. It has now been completely remodeled, and final touches are being placed prior to its Grand Opening.

The building was acquired by the City of Colquitt from the Colquitt Downtown Development Authority in 2016, and city officials have diligently designed, overseen, and funded the entire project after stabilization of the building with the financial assistance provided by the One Georgia Authority.

The new “Colquitt State Theater” will boast a 2500 square foot ballroom for multiple event types including wedding receptions, concerts, conferences, and a host of others. The space will include seating, tables, a large stage, and state-of-the-art video and audio capabilities. In addition, the theater will have a complete catering kitchen for the service of food and drink for events.

The lobby of the theater will include memorabilia from the days when the building was an actual movie theater. Who knows, the building may once again in the future be able to return on occasion to its old “glory days” of the Hollywood glitter!

The Colquitt State Theater will be made available for the public to rent for events, and a public

“Grand Opening and Viewing Event” will be held in the very near future.

The City of Colquitt also is in hopes of developing a garden space in the rear of the theater for outdoor events including weddings, etc. The community welcomes the new “Colquitt State Theater” to downtown Colquitt!
