Truck Fire Destroys Vehicle, Firemen Save Building

It’s getting hot at Food Mart! It’s getting hot at Food Mart! The call came in to Miller/ Baker 911 at approximately 4:56 p.m., that a truck was on fire at Food Mart Friday, May 10.

The Colquitt/Miller Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched, along with Colquitt Police Department and other first responders.

When the firemen arrived at the scene, they found the truck blazing up over the top of the Food Mart building. The driver, Monique Proctor of Colquitt, stated that she had driven the truck around the square and it started smoking just before she got to Food Mart, where she was going to work. She parked the 1997 Ford truck up next to the building, and the hood was opened to see why it was smoking. When it partially was opened, the flames went up over the building it was parked next to.

After the fire truck arrived, the volunteer firemen extinguished the flames in quick order and saved the building from being damaged, but the truck was heavily damaged.


Fire was quickly extinguished. Fire was quickly extinguished. According to the fire report, firemen got the call and were on the scene in just two or three minutes and extinguished the flames in less than five minutes.
