Chamber president, KaCee Holt welcomed all of the attendees and thanked the sponsors for their involvement in the community and their support of the chamber. She introduced David Stevenson, district manager of Hardee’s, and our local manager, Adrian Brannon. She then asked board member Billy Roland to open the meeting with prayer and bless the food. Afterwards community updates were given from members who were present.

KaCee then introduced Catherine Vanstone of the Southwest Georgia Regional Library System, and she began the program. Catherine gave a quick update of the library system and some of the programs that it has going on. She continued by telling attendees the benefits of having a library card with an emphasis on benefits that are not even in the library!

Catherine started by telling chamber guests how to sign up for or renew their card. Members of the online library system, GAPINES. ORG, can access their library history online. They can also check out, renew, and hold books. Catherine explained that members can download audiobooks and books online. She then explained some benefits from the online program of Galileo. This system has language tutorials and a wealth of research resources. Gale Legal Forms are also accessible from your GAPINES account. This is a database of legal forms from filing patents to divorce forms. There are also resources available from the Learning Express Library that allow members to track progress and prepare for tests such as the ASVAB, SAT, ACT, GED, and many more! You can also find study resources and practice tests for civil service, CDL, cosmetology, first responders, etc. Novelist Plus is a program for the avid readers and helps to recommend authors, titles, and series that you would be interested in based on your previous selections. Catherine also shared how the library system can be a resource for genealogy searches. Members have access to historical newspapers which are continuously updated, Ancestry Library Edition, and Heritage Quest Online. Finally, Catherine shared the Library’s Accessible Services including BARD and Bookshare which are both services that will read selections aloud for members. Catherine closed by suggesting that everyone follow the Southwest Georgia Library System on Facebook and Twitter, sign up for their e-newsletter, and read the Miller County Liberal for updates, events, and new material.

KaCee then thanked Catherine for a great program and the library system’s contribution to the community. She closed by encouraging members to notice all of the positive things that Colquitt has going on and to share those with others.
