There’s a new sheriff in town

Newly elected Miller County Sheriff Scott Worsley was sworn in on Friday, May 12, 2017, in the Miller County Courtroom at 4:00 p.m. The courtroom was packed with family, friends and employees.

The Miller County Probate Judge, Brenda McNease, welcomed the large crowd as she called Sheriff-elect Worsley to the front to be officially sworn in as the new sheriff of Miller County. Sheriff Worsley’s wife, Tonya stood with him during the swearing in ceremony.

There are already some changes in personnel at the sheriff’s department and the Miller County Jail. The new and old officers were asked to come forward and be sworn in under the new sheriff were (full-time) Robert Grier, Chief Deputy; Garrison W. Clenney, Dale Glover, Barry J. Josey, Tyrone Burns, Melanie Williams, Natalie Varnum, Terry Brent Haire, Christopher L. Goff, (part-time) Lonnie Wade, Kenneth Kirkland, Hollis Smith, and Daniel J. Stone. Not present for the swearing-in were Raymond J. Day and Richard D. Morgan. The Miller County Jail employees sworn in were Grady Jarvis, Jail Administrator; Russell Nash, Rhonda Warren, Peggy Donalson, Gray Roland, Larry G. Ard and Stephen A. Morse. Not in attendance was Benedicto B. Malinao.

A number of the parttime deputies sworn work at the Colquitt Police Department or other law-enforcement agencies.

Sheriff Worsley then turned to those attending and thanked them for the honor of being their sheriff.

The crowd was then invited to enjoy an array of refreshments that were furnished by the Miller County Commissioners.

Sheriff Worsley, who was the Chief of Police for the City of Colquitt for 19 ½ years, has an open door policy and stated that as long as it is legal and lawful, he will help any citizen of Miller County. He stated that he has lived in Miller County his entire life and was excited and proud to serve the citizens of this county. He looks forward to making a positive change to the sheriff’s office.
