One Vehicle Accident Scatters Peanuts

On Wednesday, November 2, 2016, a call went out from dispatch that an accident had occurred on Highway 91 North. First Responder units went to the scene, including Miller County Emergency Management Service, Colquitt Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service, Miller County Sheriff’s Department officers, Colquitt Police Department, and the Georgia State Patrol was dispatched to the accident involving a pickup truck with a trailer loaded with peanuts.

The accident report stated that Chester Chapman of 860 Airport Road, was traveling west on Highway 91 in a 2016 Ford pickup truck pulling a peanut trailer. The peanut trailer was owned by Birdsong’s that was loaded with peanuts.

The driver failed to maintain his lane and traveled onto the east shoulder of GA 91. As the driver attempted to correct his steering, the peanut wagon and truck overturned an unknown number of times and came to a final rest in the east ditch facing west.

Chapman refused a blood test at the scene. He was charged with failure to maintain lane, DUI/alcohol, and not wearing a safety belt.

The reporting officer was Trooper 1st Class Marc Marchant of the Georgia State Patrol Post 14 in Colquitt.
