This is to honor and re- member those who have been and are affected by cancer. It is an honor to see our Pirates participate in such a great cause.

On Tuesday, April 8, 2014, they dressed in pink and purple jerseys to honor two of our very own Pirate parents. The pink in their jerseys was to honor and support Miss Jennifer Pope, mother of Casey Pope, who has shown enormous courage during her battle against breast cancer.

The purple in their jerseys was to honor and support Mr. Stanley Cowart, father of Michael Cowart, who currently suffers from pancreatic cancer.

Before the game, these families were asked to go to the pitcher’s mound.

On behalf of the Miller County Pirates Baseball team and the Baseball Boosters, we were able to present each of them with a $500 gift to help with their fight against cancer. This money was raised by selling t-shirts to match the players’ jerseys, and by conducting a 50/50 raffle at the ball game that day. The winner of the raffle donated the money back to the team in order to support this cause. Thank you to everyone for supporting our team and our fight against cancer.
