The Sunday gathering began at approximately 11:30 a.m. The business session began at 12:30 p.m. with Mike Tabb, Sr., reunion chairman, presiding. Iva Tabb gave the secretary’s report.

Treasurer Felix Tabb, Jr. gave the treasurer’s report and the Tabb Cemetery Report. The family treasury had a balance of $4,706.12 as of June 30, 2013. A new fence has been completed around the cemetery by Colquitt Fence Company at a cost of $2,650. After bills have been paid, the treasurer reported that the balance would be approximately $2,056.00.

An effort to increase the size of the cemetery has continued, but the family was told that it is unlikely that additional land may be added to the current cemetery. The arch over the entrance which has been part of the overall project has been completed.

An election, held every two years, was held with the following officers elected. Mike Tabb, chairman; Iva Tabb, secretary; Felix Tabb, treasurer; and Jack Cowart, historian.

Merle Tabb Merritt, who had been the family historian since the annual event began in 1967, passed away in 2011. Cowart will resume the family history including births and deaths of family members as Mrs. Merritt had done for many years. Family members were requested to provide information on the family to Mr. Cowart as it occurs.

A committee, appointed in 2011 to prepare a memorial for Merle Tabb Merritt, will attempt to complete that task by the time the next reunion is held the second Sunday in July, 2014.

Awards were presented to several family members during the business session. The Hattie Mae Crawford Tabb Award for the oldest indirect family descendant was won by Max Jones. The oldest direct descendant was Iva Mae Bailey. Youngest direct descendant was Roland McMickle.

The descendant who traveled the farthest to attend the reunion was Irene Walden of Buckhead, Georgia. The Earl Tabb Memorial Award for the descendants attending the most reunions was shared by Iva and Felix Tabb. Both have only missed one of the events since they began in 1967.

Families with the most children present and most generations present were recognized at the reunion. Rachel McMickle and Mike Tabb Sr. each had three children present, and Mike Tabb, Sr. and Jack Cowart each had three generations present.

More than 50 family members and friends attended the reunion with direct descendants of Samuel Langhorne Tabb numbering 24 to be the clan with the largest number attending.

The Tabb Reunion is held on the second Sunday of July each year, and the 48th annual reunion will be held on July 13, 2014.
