Captain Dan Stone was the reporting officer.

No Insurance

On December 24, 2010, Captain Dan Stone of the Colquitt Police Department was on patrol when he noticed a Honda Civic that had a brake light out. A tag was run on the vehicle, and the tag came back no insurance. The vehicle was stopped and the officer made contact with the driver, Laura Leigh Smith of Brinson. She stated to the officer she knew the car had no insurance.

While talking with the subject, the officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the back seat. Officer Stone asked the driver had she been drinking and she stated she had not. A road side test was given, and the test revealed she had been drinking. She was cited for underage consumption and driving with no insurance. She was taken to the Miller County Jail where she was booked on the charges.

On December 23, 2010, Officer Lonnie Wade was on patrol when he was dispatched to 501 N. Cuthbert Street in reference to a disturbance. When the officer arrived, he spoke with Mrs. Evonne Linda Harris, who stated that she was assaulted by another female in the dentist office. The officer entered the dentist office and made contact with Catherine Mitchell Griffin. Mrs. Griffin stated she and Mrs. Harris got into a verbal argument over the volume of the TV that was in the office while Harris was on her cell phone. Griffin stated that Harris was loud and using sexual comments to whoever she was talking to while her kids were present in the office. Statements were taken, and the case is ongoing.

Lost and Found

On December 23, 2010, Officer Lonnie Wade was met at the police department by William Kelly. Kelly stated he was driving north on Main Street when he found a BB gun in the street. Suspended Tag

On December 29, 2010, Captain Dan Stone was running a stationary radar on MLK and 4th St. when he noticed a vehicle approaching that appeared to be speeding. The officer turned the radar unit, and the speed indicated was 54 mph. The vehicle was in a 35 mph zone. The officer made a stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver, Charles Garrett Jackson, of a Colquitt address. The officer asked for his license and he stated he didn’t have them on him. A computer check was run through 911 on the license and tag. The offender’s license came back valid but found the tag on the vehicle to be suspended, along with no valid insurance. The offender was placed under arrest and taken to the Miller County Jail.
