Lady Pirates dominating

submitted by Glenda Bailey

Lady Pirate slides into second. Lady Pirate slides into second. The Miller County Lady Pirates have been on a roll of winning over the past two weeks. The week of September 13 through the 17th was awesome! On September 13 over in Pelham, our girls faced off against the Lady Hornets and took the stinger right out of their hornet. Senior Jenna Phillips controlled the mound and went the distance winning 18-0.

Next on September 14, our girls were on the road again traveling to Edison to face the Calhoun County Lady Cougars. Once again, our Lady Pirates dominated the game winning 20-4 in six innings. Rachel Grimsley controlled the mound for the Lady Pirates. In the bottom of the fourth is when Calhoun scored their four runs having the game tied 4-4. In the top of the fifth and sixth innings is when our Lady Pirates opened up on the bats and started scoring runs. Our girls played a strong defense and were able to hold the Lady Cougars from scoring anymore runs.

Then on September 16, the Lady Pirates hosted the Randolph-Clay Lady Rebels. The game went five innings with the Lady Pirates winning 8-0. Grimsley controlled the mound for the Lady Pirates and gave up only one hit. The Lady Pirates’ defense came on strong once again.

The second week of playing was even better as our Lady Pirates traveled over to Seminole County and won 5-0. Rachel Grimlsey once again controlled the mound and with a great defense supporting her. Then our girls were off to Baconton and won 9-5. Grimsley held the mound for the Lady Pirates. The strong defense coming from our Lady Pirates is awesome to watch.

By the time this article comes out, our girls will have hosted Seminole Lady Indians with JV starting at 4:15 and varsity at 6:00 p.m. Then on Tuesday, September 28, our girls will be hosting the Mitchell Lady Eagles with game time beginning at 4:30 p.m. Next, our Lady Pirates will host Bainbridge High with JV starting at 4:30 and varsity at 5:45 p.m.

Senior Day is on September 30 when the Lady Pirates will be hosting the Terrell County Lady Greenwaves with game time at 4:30 p.m. Our senior softball players will be recognized for all their hard work and dedication to the softball program.

Coach Joni and Coach Jara hope to see a large group of Pirate fans at Spring Creek Park cheering for our Lady Pirates.
