FFA members compete in contests

Local FFA members compete in contests. Local FFA members compete in contests. Seventeen FFA members recently competed in the Local FFA Agricultural Tractor & Machinery Operations & Maintenance Career Development Event. The event was held at Miller County High School on September 3, 2010.

The Agricultural Tractor & Machinery Op- erations & Maintenance Career Development Event allows students to demonstrate the skills necessary to safely and efficiently operate a tractor. Participants in the event take a written exam and answer problemsolving questions related to tractor servicing, safe operation, care and maintenance. Participants also drive a tractor and are tested on tractor operations. This year’s participants were Colt Calhoun, Andrew Toliver, Leeland Chandler, Tyrone Curry, Jackson Fleet, Gary Roach, Cody Miller, Adam Phillips, Lee Nix, Brandon Mathis, Eric Whatley, Ross Johnson, Jonathan Sheffield, Hunter Philips, Eddie Moore, Matt Kimble, and Nick Chapman.

First place was Brandon Mathis. Second place was Jonathan Sheffield. Third place was Adam Phillips. Jonathan Sheffield will be competing at the Area 5 competition.

There are a few people we want to thank: first, Vic and Jackie Fleet for the peanuts the students got to enjoy; second, Bobby Richardson, Von Peavy, Kelly Summers for judging our competition; third, Albany Tractor and Mr. Jerry Torbert for supplying our Tractor.
