Join us for Math Night
By Debra Calhoun

You might think that math can be scary, but it can really be fun too! Come see how at the third annual Math Night at MCES. Join us Tuesday, September 14, at 6:30 p.m. The program is sponsored by the MCES teachers and PTO. We will begin in the lunchroom. You will enjoy performances of math songs by several grades led by Mrs. Holly Thomas, followed by recognition of the top three places in the math contests for each grade, Pre-K through 5. There will be drawings for math prizes for each grade. The class with the highest percentage attending will receive an ice cream party, and a class will be randomly drawn to win a popsicle party. Next, we will go to the classrooms and enjoy a math activity. Don’t worry, the math activities will be appropriate for each grade level! Teachers who have the SMART Boards will do a demonstration with them.

Contests! Who doesn’t like a good contest? Each student will be given a sheet of instructions to take home. This take-home project will allow each student to participate in a math contest designed for their grade. First, second, and third places and honorable mention(s) will be selected from each grade by judges. Be sure your student completes the project and turns it in no later than Friday, Sept. 10. The winners will receive a prize and be recognized at math night.

Activities - The activities will help everyone see what type of activities their children need to help them succeed in mathematics. These are fun as well as learning activities that can be carried over to home life. Don’t worry, there won’t be a test at the end of the night. There will be hand-outs available to take home, so you can keep working on those allimportant math skills.

Please join us for a fun and informative night. Light refreshments will be served. If you have any questions, please call or email Debra Calhoun at 229-758-4140 ext. 7017 or dcalhoun@miller.k12. ga.us.
