Bainbridge - Bainbridge police have arrested the suspect in the August 21 stabbing death of 29-yearold Eugenio Loredo.
Loredo was fatally stabbed during a fight at 712 Fleming Street just after 1 a.m. on August 21.
Bainbridge Public Safety had been looking for a suspect, 48-year-old Francisco Juan Resendez, since the day of Loredo’s death and finally caught up with him on Sunday, August 29.
BPS Chief Investigator Frank Green said Resendez was captured shortly after 4 p.m. on Sunday at a residence off Georgia 302 South, about 100 yards from the Georgia-Florida border. BPS Investigators had initially suspected Resendez might try to flee to Gadsden County, FL.
Resendez is being held at the Decatur County Jail with no bond.
Blakely - Law enforcement agencies from across Southwest Georgia, Alabama and Florida converged on Blakely Monday afternoon for the second day of the 19th annual Hands Across the Border safety awareness campaign.
The Southwest Traffic Enforcement Network includes agencies from Lee, Dougherty, Worth, Early, Baker, Mitchell, Colquitt, Miller, Seminole, Decatur, Grady and Thomas counties.
Eighty participating personnel met at the Early County Ag Center on Freeman Road at 5:30 p.m. for dinner and checkpoint briefings.At 8 p.m. they set up sobriety checkpoints on U.S. 84 near Saffold and on U.S. 62 near Hilton.
They issued a total of 21 citations, including three arrests for DUI and one fugitive arrest. Other offenses included possession of marijuana with intention to distribute (2), driving with suspended license (3), driving without a license, open containers (2), expired tags (4), seatbelt violations (2) defective equipment, and one fugitive arrest.
Over two pounds of marijuana were seized in connection with the drug arrests along with $1,139 in cash.
“It’s a sad fact, but high risk drivers are everywhere in the Southeast,” says Director Bob Dallas of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. “Hands Across the Border enforcement reminds all Labor Day weekend motorists that police on both sides of the state line will be enforcing safe driving laws. We’re all committed to making our communities safer by taking drunk drivers off the road.”
Blountstown - Brandon Lee Conyers, 32, of Blounstown was charged August 17 with aggravated battery on a pregnant victim.
According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department, Conyers allegedly became intoxicated at a birthday party and his girlfriend, who is six weeks pregnant, accidentally hit his mouth with her forehead when they were horse playing. Witnesses said Conyers began choking her, then slammed her into the side of a truck. Later, he allegedly put a gun in her lap and begged her to shoot him.
Cuthbert - A Perry, Florida man accused of murder and armed robbery was arrested at a Fort Gaines motel Tuesday morning by federal agents.
Rufus Lee, 21, was arrested by U.S. marshals as he talked on a cell phone in the parking lot of a Fort Gaines motel around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Charged with first degree murder, armed robbery and attempted murder, Lee is accused of killing one person and shooting another during the robbery of a Perry barber shop on Memorial Day.
He was arrested without incident and has been extradited back to Florida and is currently being held in the Taylor County Jail.
Lee is accused of killing Henry Hughes during an armed robbery at Daddy’s Place Barber Shop in Perry, FL.
Dawson - Dawson Police are continuing their investigation into an armed robbery which occurred at a Dawson eating establishment last week, Dawson Public Safety Director Charlie Whitehead reported.
According to Chief Whitehead, the armed robbery occurred at the Huddle House restaurant around 1:20 a.m. on Wednesday, August 25.
Chief Whitehead said employees at the establishment reported a masked person entered the restaurant armed with a dark-framed handgun and demanded money. The gunman left on foot with an undisclosed amount of money and was last seen going north on Forrester Drive. There were no reported injuries.
