Letters to the Editor

2010-09-01 / Opinion

Terry,

Charles and I really enjoyed this, especially, as we celebrate the life of my g-g-grandfather, Joshua B. Everett, on Saturday.

Charles had two brothers in Vietnam and one in Japan on stand by. Donald was injured and was flown home with just the medical crew to Brook General Hospital. Richard was a medic and saw many horrors. Pete worked as a military supply clerk.

My brother, Bill Jenkins, flew spotter planes to locate Charlie. This made him a target...many close calls, but no injuries. He retired as a lieutenant colonel from the Air Force.

Charles served four years in the Air Force, all in the foreign country - according to him - of Texas. This was during peace-time 1957-1960,

I met him after he returned to Worth County.

Sorry so long. Call this a break from the usual! While in Colquitt, I will come by and see Wanda. Thank you for printing it.

Thanks,

Berta Ulm

Miller County Liberal,

Please find attached the law about the ad for the notice of property tax increase. We could not change the words in any way nor could we add a comment directly to that ad. That is why we paid for the ad for the press release since Terry did not write an article about this. The law is changing 1/1/2011, but this year it had to stay the same. It is misleading because of the way the law is written. This is for the Recreation tax only and not the county’s overall. The amount of mills for the Recreation is 0.603 and the amount for the County is 17.50 which total’s 18.103. That is a REDUCTION of 1.827 (almost 2) MILLS. One mill is approximately $154,000 so that is a reduction of $281.36 for property assessed value of $154,000.

I know this is confusing, but it is the law. The county commissioners do not write the laws. I know everyone wants to blame them, but if the people would bother to LISTEN while someone is explaining it, then, they may be able to understand better. Everyone has their minds made up that something is wrong before they even get the facts. And Terry does not help it by allowing halftruths to be published and not being a reporter by investigating the facts.

Thanks for your patience. I will send the other ads and po# later.
