Lady Pirates win/lose/win at tournament
Seniors (L-R): Keia Sheiffield, Jenna Phillips and Mary Katherine Spooner accept the Red Flame Division trophy.
On Friday and Saturday, August 20 and 21, our Lady Pirates participated in a tournament over in Baconton, Georgia. In the first game, our girls faced Albany High. The game went four innings as our Lady Pirates dominated with a win, 14-0. Next our girls faced Fitzgerald High in a five inning game, winning 10-2.
Our Lady Pirates hopped back on the school bus and traveled back over to Baconton to play Clinch County in a very close game and winning 11-10. Then our girls turned right around and played Brooks County and Thomasville High and lost both games. But hold on-- our Lady Pirates then had to play Baconton, beat them 9-4, then Albany High again and won 19-2.
Our Miller County Lady Pirates won the Red Flame Division and came in third overall. Coach Joni stated, "I am very proud of all the girls. They played their hearts out and never once gave up."
The next Lady Pirate game will be Tuesday at Spring Creek Park against Baconton. Junior Varsity begins at 4:30, and Varsity will follow. Then the Varsity will travel to Mitchell County on Thursday. Way to go, Lady Pirates!
