Lady Pirates start season off with two big wins
Good hitting, pitching and base running wins games. Don’t forget great defensive playing.
The Lady Pirates softball team members started their season on Monday, August 16, when they traveled to Bainbridge High School to play the Lady Bearcats. The Lady Pirates played a great game and were able to come home with a victory. The final score was 8-7.
On Thursday, August 19, the Lady Pirates hosted the Lady Cougars of Calhoun County High School. The girls played great defense and were able to keep the Lady Cougars from scoring any runs. The Lady Pirates attacked the ball and were able to end the game in four innings with a final score of 14-0.
There are 15 girls that make up the varsity team. The seniors are Jenna Phillips, Keia Sheffield, and Mary Katherine Spooner. Sabrina Granade is the only junior on the team. Sophomores are Rachel Grimsley, Amber Lovering, Ashton McLain, Ashton Mock, Morgan Mock, Denise Varnum, and Alea Worsley. Freshman play- ers are Eden Cunningham, Lynleigh Kaye Hall, Leah McDowell, and Kelley Whitaker.
The coaches and players want to thank everyone that has been coming out to support them. The Lady Pirates will travel to Randolph Clay on Tuesday, August 24, to play the Lady Red Devils. On Thursday, August 26, the JV and varsity will play the Seminole County Lady Indians at home. The JV game starts at 4:30 p.m., and the varsity game will begin at 6:00.
