Locals attend Beef Futurity Show
Debbie and Will Henry with their Reserve Grand Champion of show.
On July 15-17, the GA Jr. Beef Futurity was held at the GA National Agricenter in Perry. There were over 400 beef cattle entries in the Jr. event, and among those entered were Will Henry and Sydney Thomas of Colquitt.
These exhibitors began the first day of the Futurity by competing in their showmanship classes. In the sixth grade showmanship division, Sydney finished as the ninth overall showman in the event that included both steer and heifer show exhibitors.
The next day Will and Sydney competed in the breed classes for each of their heifers. In the Hereford Breed Show, Will Henry won Reserve Grand Champion with his heifer. In the Chianina Influence show, Sydney Thomas placed fourth with her heifer.
Sydney is the daughter of Cory and Holly Thomas, and an upcoming sixth grade member of the Miller County Middle School FFA. Will is the son of Bruce and Debbie Henry and an upcoming 10th grade member of the Miller County High School FFA.
These exhibitors are looking forward to much more success this show season. Other Miller County heifer exhibitors who will be joining them in future show competitions this year are Garison Clenney, Preston Clenney, Tyner Cobb, Aaron Haire, Henley Haire, Haley McGowan, Aden Strickland, and Ridge Strickland. The group will be attending a show cattle clinic which will be held at the Miller County Agricultural Center on July 29 – 31 to further their skills this year with their heifer projects.
