The Importance of Summer…Reading, that is

Beat the heat! Stay cool this summer by curling up with a good book from the library. Statistics show that children who do not read during the summer break have lower grades and lower test scores, compared with children who read during the summer break.

Summer reading isn’t only for children; it is for adults, as well. Adults who read set a good example for their children. All you have to do is read a book, a newspaper, a magazine, or even a flier at the store. Studies prove that children who see their parents reading are re-assured that reading is beneficial.

The library is the perfect place to kick back and relax with a good book. The staff of the Miller County – James W. Merritt, Jr. Memorial Library is prepared to assist you in your reading needs. Whether you want that new book you saw advertised on television, the perfect story book to read to your child before bedtime, or a book about your favorite vacation spot, the library is your one-stop information shop. Please stop by the Miller County – James W. Merritt, Jr. Memorial Library Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. to browse some of these great reading selections.
