Abby Cloud recognized in Calendar Art Contest

Abby Cloud Abby Cloud Abby Cloud and other Leon County School Students were recognized on Thursday, May 13, at the Mary Brogan Museum of Art and Science for their contributions to the “What Makes Tallahassee Leon County Beautiful” 2011 Art Contest. This contest is part of the “Think Before You Throw-Where Does It Go?” Campaign.

Students submitted their artwork to their school, and one person was chosen from each grade to represent their grade in the countywide contest. Abby’s artwork was chosen to represent fourth grade at Killearn Lakes Elementary School. She went on to the county art contest, where she competed against fourth grade students from several other schools. One student from each grade level, K-12, was chosen to have his or her artwork included in the 2011 county calendar. Abby was chosen as the overall county winner for fourth grade. She drew Florida’s Capitol for her entry. Each piece of winning artwork will be featured in the 2011 “What Makes Tallahassee-Leon County Beautiful” calendar. Superintendent, Jackie Pons and Tallahassee mayor, John Marks presented $100.00 Visa Gift Cards and a certificate to each of the 13 winners. Abby was joined by her mother and father, her teacher, Mrs. Blass, and her art teacher, Ms. Curtis, at this presentation. The calendars will be available this fall.

“The idea was to get the students to think about parts of Tallahassee that are beautiful and what impact litter would have on that area,” said John Baker, from the city’s environmental policy and energy resource department.

Abby is the daughter of Mike and Joy (Holt) Cloud of Tallahassee. She is the granddaughter of Steve and Shirley Holt of Colquitt and Ouida Cloud of Tallahassee, FL and the great-granddaughter of Thelma Lovering and Grace McLendon.
