Cannon, McMickle speak wedding vows
Mr. and Mrs. Seth Kirksey Cannon
Alicia Beth McMickle and Seth Kirksey Cannon were united in marriage on May 22, 2010, at Flat Creek Baptist Church, Colquitt. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie McMickle of Donalsonville. Her grandparents are Mrs. Cary McMickle and the late Mr. Cary McMickle of Donalsonville and the late Mr. and Mrs. Wilburn Jackson. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Cannon of Colquitt. His grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. James Nease of Gainesville, GA and the late Mr. and Mrs. A.P. Cannon.
The bride wore a strapless lace trumpet gown with a beaded waist and ruching bodice. Her lacetrimmed veil was topped by a tiara. She carried a bouquet of bright pink and yellow daisies, pink roses and green berries. She wore an aquamarine and ruby ring that had belonged to the groom’s grandmother and was borrowed from the groom’s sister. The ring fulfilled the something old, something borrowed and something blue wedding tradition. Her wedding dress was the something new.
The bridal attendants were Laura Craft, sister of the bride, Sharon Newberry, Joanna Richardson and Leanna Burch. Olivia Craft, niece of the bride, was junior bridesmaid. They wore short satin watermelon colored dresses with round necks, pleated bustlines and ruching at the waist. Their bouquets consisted of bright pink daisies and green berries. The flower girls were Abigail McMickle and Maggie McMickle of Statesboro. They wore matching white dresses with jeweled necklines adorned with floral beaded appliqué and soft chiffon over satin a-line skirts.
The bridegroom chose his brother, James Cannon of Charlotte, N.C. as his best man and his father, Gary Cannon, as honorary best man. Other groomsmen were Matthew Griffin, Valdosta, Dehaviland Haire, Colquitt, Brandon Lane, Donalsonville and Ben Morrow, Warner Robins. Wendell Craft, Jr., nephew of the bride, Donalsonville, was the ring bearer. They wore taupe colored tuxes with pistachio colored vests and ties. Their boutonnières featured a pink rose with green berries.
The wedding was planned by the couple to show their unique style but in keeping with some of the traditional ceremonies. Prior to the start of the wedding, the guests were welcomed by a digital photo presentation of the bride’s and groom’s childhood and time together. An early singing of “Sweet Sweet Spirit” by Gayle Grimsley in her beautiful voice readied the guests for the ceremony. After the mothers and grandmothers were seated, Brad Burke sang “Your Everything,” accompanying himself on the acoustical guitar. The attendants and bride, escorted by her father, entered the church to “American Honey” played by Brad Burke on the acoustic guitar. As the bride was presented and given by her parents, Gayle Grimsley sang “You Are My Sunshine” as a tribute to the bride’s grandfather who sang it to her as a child. The Rev. Robert Johns of Sneads, FL, presided over a traditional wedding charge, after which the bride and groom performed a salt ceremony, combining different colored salt together as a symbol of the qualities they expect their marriage to be. After Rev. Johns presented the couple, they left the sanctuary, followed by their attendants to “Livin’ Our Love Song” as played acoustically by Brad Burke.
The wedding programs were distributed by Evie McMickle, niece of the bride, and assisted by her mother, Rachel Mc- Mickle, who also kept the guest book.
Following the wedding ceremony, the parents of the bride hosted a reception at Town and County Club in Blakely where guests were invited to enjoy a buffet style meal served by the ladies of Flat Creek Baptist Church. The wedding cake was a white three–tier pound cake with butter cream icing decorated and topped with fresh daisies. The groom’s cake was red velvet in the design of a largemouth bass. The couple’s first dance was to “Unbelievable” by Josh Gracin. The bride then had a final dance with her father to “It Won’t Be Like This for Long” by Darius Rucker. A bar of the couple’s favorite candies was available for family and friends to enjoy as a “Thank You” from the couple. The newlyweds left the reception through a tunnel of friends with sparklers as majestic fireworks were displayed over the golf course. They enjoyed a week long honeymoon in Key West, Florida. They are now making their home in Donalsonville.
The ceremony was directed by Genta Davis and Hope Cleveland. Music was provided by Brad Burke, Gayle Grimsley and Genta Davis.
