Area Students to attend workshop at ABAC

Flint River Soil & Water Conservation District will sponsor three students to attend the 2010 Natural Resources Conservation Workshop at ABAC this month. Flint River SWCD scholarships have been awarded to Eric Whatley, Hunter Hancock, and Clint Edmonds.

Erin is from Arlington and attends Miller County High School. He is a member FFA and the forestry team. Hunter is a rising senior at Westwood High School in Camilla and a member of 4-H. He has many shotgun awards and competed in the Jr. Olympics in shotgun competition in Colorado. Clint is a rising sophomore at Bainbridge High. He is a member of FFA and competes in showing hogs. He is on the Ag Communications Team.

Other area students in the Flint River District who were selected to attend the workshops and are being privately sponsored include Javonta Barnes, who attends Monroe High School; Ginny Stern, competes in horse shows and attends DWHS; Joseph Fetner, a wildlife enthusiast, attends SGA.

This is the 49th year of the workshops which help carry out Flint River District’s mission of “promoting conservation through building partnerships.” During the workshop, students will receive classroom and field instruction on how to manage Georgia’s natural resources.
