Two arrested on MLK Jr St. Sunday

On Sunday, June 20 at 2:30 a.m., Sgt. Lonnie Wade was en route to 301 North Martin Luther King, Jr. Street in reference to closing the Fun House down for the night. Upon Sgt. Wade’s arrival, he advised the security man that it was time to close the Fun House for the night.

While waiting for the club to close, Sgt. Wade noticed and observed Peyton Denise Grant, 43, of 301 East Dancer St. exit the building with a staggering walk. Sgt. Wade approached Grant and advised Grant that he had a warrant for her arrest. Sgt. Wade told Grant that he was going to place her in handcuffs and escort her to the back seat of his patrol unit car.

Grant answered back that she understood the situation and would go.

As Sgt. Wade placed one handcuff on Grant’s left wrist, Grant became angry and combative. Sgt. Wade then advised Grant to calm down as he placed the other handcuff on Grant’s right wrist. Grant then became more combative and angry.

Officer Scott Cleveland approached the situation to try to get Grant to calm down as Sgt. Wade tried to handcuff her right wrist. Mrs. Grant refused to calm down. Sgt. Wade then used minimum force to get Grant’s right hand into handcuffs. As Sgt. Wade got the handcuff onto her right wrist, he then escorted Grant to the rear driver’s side of his patrol car to place her in the back seat. As Sgt. Wade was placing Grant into the back seat of his patrol car, Grant refused to get in.

Sgt. Wade then advised Grant that if she didn’t get into the vehicle, he would touch taser her. Grant refused again, and Sgt. Wade then applied his X-26 taser to Grant’s lower abdomen and advised her to sit down. Mrs. Grant refused again. He then applied his X-26 taser to her lower abdomen again. That is when Grant then complied to his orders and sat down in the rear of his patrol car.

Sgt. Wade then closed the rear driver’s side door and walked away to assist Cleveland with a situation that he was handling with the boyfriend of Grant. The boyfriend was becoming angry and combative. While handling the situation, the officers heard Grant striking the rear driver’s side and rear passenger side window with her hands with the handcuffs on. They then rushed to the patrol unit and opened the rear driver’s side door and observed Grant getting more angry and combative.

Sgt. Wade then applied his X- 26 taser (touch tased) to Grant left leg (thigh) to calm her down after she did not listen to him telling her to calm down.

Sgt. Wade then noticed that his rear driver’s side and passenger side windows were damaged due to Grant’s actions. Sgt. Wade radioed the dispatcher that he was leaving the scene and was en route to the county jail where Grant was charged with public drunkenness and obstruction of officers. Other charges are pending for damage to public property.

In another incident on Martin Luther King Jr. St. at 3:45 a.m. Sunday June 20, Officer Scott Cleveland of the Colquitt Police Department was dispatched to a subject with a pipe at the intersection of Dancer Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Street trying to fight people.

Upon arrival, Officer Cleveland observed Mr. Allen Douglas, 42, of 304 Clay Brown Road, with a pipe swinging it at subjects in an aggressive manner.

When the officers stepped out of their units, Mr. Douglas began to walk away and the pipe down.

At this time the officers placed Mr. Douglas in handcuffs due to his irate behavior. Mr. Douglas was seen in plain view of the officers.
