Crowd gathers for ribbon cutting of Hong Kong Buffet.
The Chinese restaurant on the square is now open with new owners and a new name.
Yi Jin Zhang and his wife, Mei, officially opened the doors to the Hong Kong Buffet on Thursday, June 10, with a ribbon cutting.
Veryl Garland Cockey, executive director of the Colquitt/Miller County Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the new owners to Colquitt and thanked them for re-opening the business. “It’s always nice to have good eating places,” commented Garland.
Clyde Jinks, speaking on behalf of the Miller County thanked the owners for choosing Colquitt to make their home and wished them much success.
Jewel Maddox of the Downtown Development Corporation also expressed her appreciation to Jin and Mai for giving the citizens of Colquitt another fine eating establishment.
While new to Colquitt, the Zhangs are not new to the restaurant business. He has worked in restaurants for over 10 years in Pennsylvania and New York.
The restaurant serves Chinese and American food as well as Japanese sushi. It features an allyou can-eat lunch buffet from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. seven days a week or a dinner seafood buffet from 4:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and on Friday and Saturday from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. You can eat in or take out, order from the menu or eat from the buffet. The cooks use 100% vegetable oil and have no MSG in their food.
Jin commented, “We are glad to be in Colquitt where life is a little slower; the people are really friendly, but the weather is too hot!”
They would like to invite everyone to come in and try their food. “We know you will like it,” say the new owners.
The Zhangs have a son, Aaron, who will turn four years old in August. They are attending Colquitt United Methodist Church.
