Fabulous Fourth of July to be celebrated July 2
The Colquitt/Miller County Chamber of Commerce has had extensive planning to make this one of the best Fourth of July celebrations ever on Friday, July 2, at Spring Creek Recreation Park.
The fun starts at 6:00 p.m. There will be inflatables for the kids to enjoy. An arm bracelet can be purchased for $5.00 to enjoy all the inflatables for the evening.
The American Legion and VFW members will present the colors and give the evening the tone needed to let us realize why we celebrate our nation’s birthday. This part of the evening’s entertainment will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Then at 8:00 p.m. the MayHaw Singers will be performing. Some of the best singing and entertainment you’ll ever hear right here in Colquitt will be happening at Spring Creek Park. They sound like the stars, but they are original talent right from this area.
For those with an appetite or thirst, there will be hamburgers, hotdogs, barbecue, soft drinks and plenty of water for everyone to enjoy. Along with all of that, you will get to see old friends and neighbors and might get to meet some new ones.
At dark, those who attend the event, as well as those in the area, will see a fireworks’ display by professionals. We are hoping for some rain before and lots after to make it safe to shoot the giant fireworks. Don’t worry, since our own Colquitt/Miller County Volunteer Fire Department will be on hand to help.
This is all free, except for the food and drinks, to anyone who comes. No ice chests, please! The funds made from the drinks will go toward chamber events such as this one organized for this community. Bring your blankets, spreads and chairs as you enjoy the entertainment, the food and drinks, the fellowship and the fireworks as we celebrate our nation’s birthday.
If you look at the banners and signs, you will see the sponsors who make events such as this celebration and the National Mayhaw Festival possible and free to the public. It doesn’t just happen. Someone pays, and the sponsors are the ones who make the celebration possible each year. Thank them if you see them. Have a great Fourth of July on the Second.
