Dive Right In! The Books are Fine at Your Library!

Join us at the Miller County – James W. Merritt, Jr. Memorial Library on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at 3:30 p.m. for “Dive Right In!” This program brings magic, puppets, fun, and storytelling for young readers in our community. Tommy Johns, his sidekick Roosevelt Rat, and Claudia the Hippo will be showing that good readers can learn to do all kinds of things, have all kinds of adventures, and meet all kinds of people. Children will get to meet a pirate and find out how to learn to do magic tricks! Don’t miss this award-winning show that young and old will enjoy!

Tommy Johns is an educator, comedian, magician, puppeteer, and storyteller who travels all over the southeastern United States performing programs that encourage children to read. He has won numerous awards including the Greater Atlanta Magician of the Year in 2005. “I believe that reading opens the door to learning about everything else in life. That’s why all my school and library shows encourage reading,” says Johns, who has been a professional performer since his college days. An avid reader himself, Johns performs about 500 shows each year in schools and libraries across the country.

This program is a part of the 2010 Vacation Reading Program, “Make a Splash – READ.”
