MCHS Class of 1957 enjoys reunion

Class of 1957 enjoys reunion. Class of 1957 enjoys reunion. During the weekend of April 16-18, the 1957 Class of Miller County High School held its reunion. The festive weekend events were hosted by Jerry Grimsley and Karen Hasty.

Friday night, all of the classmates, their spouses and friends gathered at the barn at Jerry Grimsley’s. The classmates had prepared delicious food to eat while listening to 50’s music and reminiscing.

On Saturday, the classmates rode on a float in the National Mayhaw Festival Parade pulled by Jerry Grimsley in his 1957 Chevy.

On Saturday night, a meal of fish and shrimp with all the trimmings was prepared by Jerry and Homer Spooner. The barn was decorated with lights, streamers, and other 50’s decorations.

The farewell breakfast on Sunday morning consisted of eggs, sausage casserole, grits, fruit and sweet rolls.

A large bulletin board was full of high school and past reunion pictures. A short business meeting was conducted by Jerry Grimsley. All of the classmates and guests thanked Jerry for hosting this year’s reunion. The spirited group ended their weekend happy and knowing they had been in high school during the best of times.

Those attending the reunion were Oscar Bailey and his date, Diane Noble, Zelda Bryan Hicks, Waver Buckhalter Mullins and Roger, L.N. and Linda Cleveland, Lynford Cook, Joanne Cowart Frantz and Harold, David and Emmie Daniels, Billy and Joyce Davis, Merle Dean Reid and Larry, Sterling Donley, Georgia Dozier Kinne and Syd, Jerry Grimsley and Karen Hasty, Jan Rawls Grimsley, Mary Rentz, Joy Harrell Fenes, Bernice Henry Davis, Jerry Maddox Cook and Gerald, Patricia McLendon Miller, Don and JoAnne Skeen, Carlton and Faye Skipper, Homer and Sheila Spooner, Delany Sheffield Blackman, Virginia Warren, Sinclair and Evelyn Shingler, Margaret Ann Comeford, Wayne and Marianne Moore, Patricia Newberry Heard and Frank, Don and Marie Phillips, Bert Priest and guest, Ray and Laura Lovering, Judy Taylor Bell and Don, David and Glenda Lane, Maxine Wells Summers and Kelley, Frances Worsley Kelly, Dorothy Kelley McCroan and Alice Thomas Lunsford.

A good time was had by all. Comments such as “this was the best reunion yet,” and “how will we ever top this one,” were heard by classmates. One of the spouses of a classmate also said, “I want to have my diploma moved to the Miller County High School Class of 1957.”
