Region 1-A Champions!
MCHS track team winners are (l-r) Jackie Logan, Katrina Crankfield, Coach Courtney Chapman, Salina Diamond, Sukena Diamond.
On Tuesday, April 27, MCHS Track Coach Courtney Chapman, along with Coach Nate George, took six high school girls over to Pelham High School to compete in a Girls’ Region 1-A track meet. Other schools that competed were Pelham, Terrell, Calhoun, Randolph/ Clay, Clinch, Atkinson, Echols, Bacon, and Baconton Charter. Guess What? Due to all the weird weather that we have been having, it was hard for our girls to practice and attempt to have even practice track meets. So as Coach Chapman and Coach George, along with these six girls, made their way to Pelham, there was a lot of mixed emotions and adrenaline flowing.
Well, it has been said a picture is worth more than words, so here are the results. Senior Katrina Crankfield is the Region 1-A Champion in the 100 meter dash, Salina Diamond is the Region 1-A Champion in the 400 meter dash, and this young female athlete has won this award three consecutive years. Also along with Crankfield and Diamond, Jackie Logan and Sukena Diamond competed in the 4x100 meter competition and won! They are Region 1-A Champions!
In an interview with Coach Chapman, She stated, “This group of girls has made me and MCHS proud. The team only consists of six girls, three of which are freshmen. They are small in number, but they made their presence known at the region track meet. They had to participate in multiple events and pushed themselves to the limit. These girls exhibited athletic prowess at its finest.
