Pic N Save holds ribbon cutting for newly remodeled store
The second ribbon cutting of the day was held Friday, April 30, at Pic N Save on Crawford St. Martiele Pickle, chamber president, thanked the crowd for coming out and supporting the new owners, Jimmy and Karen Freeman. She also commented on the renovations that have been made to the store and the low prices.
Mayor Jerry Chapman also offered the new owners the City of Colquitt’s support. He too, thanked the Freemans for choosing Colquitt to expand their grocery business.
Debra Atkinson, Community Development Corporation chairperson, and Jewel Worsley, chairman of the Downtown Development Association, also expressed their thanks and offered their help to the new owners.
The Freemans from Dothan, AL are a husband and wife team who have been married for 30 years and work hand-in-hand as proud owners of Colquitt Pic N Save. They also own a grocery store in Dothan. They have one son, Jai Freeman. He attends Troy University in Troy, Alabama, and is in his junior year. He plans to continue on in the grocery business after graduating college.
Jimmy is no stranger to the industry. He began as a young boy working as a bagger, and by the time he graduated from high school he had been promoted to assistant manager of the store. Jimmy has put more than 35 years into the grocery industry working in various capacities and eventually came to the conclusion that he wanted to go into business for himself. He sits on the Board of Directors of Alabama Grocers of the South and is also a trustee member of the Board of Directors of Alabama Grocers Education Foundation.
The Freemans purchased the Colquitt Pic N Sav in April of 2009 from Hubert and Barbara Stafford. They have invested a lot into the store since the purchase. They have completely remodeled the store and are still doing renovations to make it more eye-appealing to their customers. “You will always find low, low prices at Pic N Save,” said Freeman.
