‘It ain’t over yet!’
Everyone was waiting until Friday, April 30, at noon, to see who would be running for the various offices to be filled. That was the last day that a citizen could qualify as a political party candidate.
We now have those candidates who qualified for the Democratic and Republican Primaries to be held on Tuesday, July 20.
Local candidates for the Democratic Primary are:
County C
District 2
Stephen Kreg Freeman
Barbie L. Womble
County C
District 4 G.C. Jinks Jr. James C. Phillips Board of Education District 2 Vicki Franklin Merby ritt
Board of Education District 4
Renza P. Israel
Local candidate for the Republican Primary is:
Board of Education District 2
Bob Eldridge This means that a voter (elector) must choose which primary he or she wishes to vote in on July 20. There are two primaries, one Democratic and one Republican.
The winners of each primary will meet in the November 2, General Election. This will be a big election and the one that elects to office, most state officials and one U.S. Senator and one U.S. Representative from our district.
As the headline states, “it ain’t over yet.” An Independent candidate for any office has from June 28, until July 2 at 12 noon to file notice of candidacy to have their name placed on the November 2, General Election ballot.
