Business people, family and community well-wishers were on hand to see new business open on the square. Last Friday, April 30, another new business, Elaine’s Colquitt Florist and Gifts, opened on the square in Colquitt.

Martiele Pickle, chairman of the Miller County Chamber of Commerce, welcomed everyone to the ribbon cutting of yet another business in Colquitt. She thanked the new owner, Elaine Miller, for opening her shop and offered the chamber’s help in any way that was needed.

Mayor Jerry Chapman also gave thanks to the new owner and wished her much success in the opening.

Speaking on behalf of the Miller County Commissioners, Barbie Womble also thanked the owner and told that she too, once owned a flower shop at the same location and told how proud she was to see another one opened in the same location. Clyde Jinks from the county was also recognized.

Debra Atkinson of the Community Development Corporation and Jewel Maddox from the Downtown Development Authority also wished the new owner well and offered their help.

Surrounded by friendly, encouraging faces, Elaine was beaming as she cut the ribbon for Colquitt’s newest business. “As one more building on our wonderful square was filled, one more dream was coming true,” stated the new owner.

After the cutting of the ribbon, everyone was invited to enjoy delicious refreshments that had been prepared by family and friends.

However, Elaine is not new to this type of business. She developed a love for the florist life when she worked for six years at the same location with the previous owner.

As Mayor, Jerry Chapman indicated, flowers are given and received at very special times in our lives. Sharing excitement, joy, anticipation, and even sorrow through flowers builds very personal bonds as the florist serves as a link between those giving and receiving. To Elaine, stepping back into that familiar realm feels like coming home.

Elaine would like to invite you to come in and see what she has to offer you.

In addition to flowers, she also carries lots of gifts, such as candles, purses, jewelry, luggage, baby décor, and much more.

Elaine’s also has a senior registry for the Class of 2010 and invites all seniors from Miller County and the surrounding area to come in and register. Also don’t forget Mom! Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 9.

She has many beautiful plants, gifts, and fresh flowers for each and every mother and will deliver.

The drawing for the candle that was given away on Saturday was Martha Cox.

Elaine will try and get anything in her shop that is not already there. Her hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. You may reach her at 758-5807 or 758-5808.
