Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society Inducts Members at BC

The Bainbridge College Chapter of Mu Alpha Theta (MATH), National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society, inducted members April 11 in a ceremony at the BC Library on the main campus.
Among the new members are Stamey Myrick of Colquitt; Anthony Yates of Brinson; Kelly Camille Gilmore, Mindy Gray, Shaquera Taneica Moore, Rachel L. Oliver, Sarah L. Oliver of Donalsonville; and Joanna LaToya Smith and Andrew Lee Clarke of Jakin.
Treasurer Lee Anne Sheffield of Colquitt, who is a charter member, worked with Chapter Advisor Mary Glenn Grimes, associate professor of mathematics in the Arts and Sciences Division, Co-advisor Elwanda Coston, assistant professor of mathematics in the Learning Support Division, other BC math faculty, chapter officers and members to provide a Math Tutor Blitz on campus before final exams each semester. She did major planning and shopping for supplies for the April 19 blitz and for the fall 2009 event.
Students invited to join Mu Alpha Theta have demonstrated exemplary academic achievement, having earned credit in at least one course at or above the College Algebra/Pre-Calculus level, maintaining a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) in all college mathematics courses with the prefix MATH and a number 1000 or higher, and having a 3.3 cumulative college GPA.
