RUTH SMITH

Mrs. Ruth Smith, age 87, of Donalsonville passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Miller County Hospital.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 9, at 3:00 p.m. at Springfield Baptist Church in Jakin with Rev. Fred Odom officiating. Interment followed at Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville.

Pallbearers were Chad Higginbotham, Jeff Smith, Ronnie Shiver, Don Hand, Ronald Bruner, Rusty Bradley, and Tracy Smith.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Ruth Sunday School Class of Springfield Baptist Church.

Mrs. Smith was born in Donalsonville on August 10, 1922, to the late H.K."Doc" and Effie Donahough Sheffield. She graduated from Seminole County High School in 1938. Mrs. Smith attended Springfield Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class and was a homemaker, enjoying quilting, working in her flowers, and being with family and friends.

Survivors include a son, Larry Smith, Donalsonville; three daughters, Marilyn (Doug) Sowell, Columbia, AL, Helen (Buck) Turner, Ozark, AL, Karen (Billy) Kimbrel, Colquitt; seven grandchildren, Teri Ward Ashley, Tucker Smith, Tracy Smith, Chad Higginbotham and his wife, Becky, Amy Hume and her husband, Bruce, Suzanne Erp and her husband, Jackson, and Desiree Haselden and her husband, Mike; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler Smith, Quint Hume, Karson Erp, Morgan Erp, Luke Erp, Emma Haselden, and Acea Haselden. She is also survived by two special nieces, Rita S. Bowen and her husband George of Donalsonville and Joann Davis of Auburndale, FL, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, H.K."Doc" and Effie Donahough Sheffield; her husband of 68 years, A.W. Smith; a son, Greg Smith; a granddaughter, DeeDee Smith; two brothers, Hurbert Sheffield and Tom Sheffield; and two sisters, Lillie Mae Odom and Nell Brown.

Colquitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
