Georgia Dot Receives $15m in Federal Funds for Infrastructure Damaged in 2009 Floods

ATLANTA – The Georgia Department of Transportation expects to receive about $15 million in Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) emergency relief funds for roads and bridges that were damaged during two separate floods in 2009.

“This is welcome news for the Georgia DOT and communities impacted by these significant weather events,” said Georgia DOT Commissioner Vance C. Smith Jr. “Many of these projects are completed or underway, and the funds will serve to reimburse the Department and local governments for this work.”

The Department was allocated $2 million for the April 2009 floods. Twenty six roads and bridges were identified as eligible for federal funding. More than $13 million was allotted for the September 2009 floods for 72 roads and bridges. The Georgia Department of Transportation is committed to providing a safe, seamless and sustainable transportation system that supports Georgia’s economy and is sensitive to both its citizens and its environment.
