High speed chase results in three arrests

On Friday, March 26, 2010, Officer Scott Cleveland was on patrol when he noticed a car exceeding the speed limit.

Officer Cleveland initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, a Chevrolet HRR. The vehicle pulled in to the Chevron Gas Station and came to a stop. The vehicle then took off out the other drive, turning on to Fourth Street headed east, then immediately turned on to Bremond Street, almost losing control of the vehicle. The vehicle then turned on to Railroad Street headed north to the dead end on Bellview Road. The vehicle went through the stop sign at the dead end, turning right on Bellview Road going across both lanes of traffic. The vehicle continued east on Bellview Road at a high rate of speed until Sergeant Lonnie Wade was able to assist Officer Cleveland with a rolling road block to slow the vehicle’s speed.

The vehicle then turned into a yard on the south side of the roadway. The passengers, Jimmy Chatman, 28 and Akeen Johnson, 19, both of Columbus addresses, were the first to exit the vehicle out of the passenger side of the car and started running into the woods. The driver of the vehicle, Undra Brown, 29, of a Bainbridge address, also exited the vehicle on the same side and started running.

Marijuana, cocaine and cash were discovered after subjects were caught. Marijuana, cocaine and cash were discovered after subjects were caught. Officer Cleveland advised all three occupants of the car to stop running. With no avail, the officer attempted to take the driver down, but the subject continued to resist arrest, and the taser was deployed. Due to continued resistance, he was tased again and complied with orders at this time. He was placed in handcuffs and waited for EMS and Investigator Morgan to arrive to remove the taser prongs.

A small baggy with several more smaller baggies inside with a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana was found on the subject.

After medical attention was given to Brown, he was transported to the Miller County Jail.

Several deputies arrived on the scene to aid in helping with the other two that had run in the woods.

The vehicle was searched, and an amount of a white powder substance was located in the car in a clear plastic baggy and a small amount of marijuana just outside the passenger door where the subjects had exited the vehicle was also found.
