One vehicle accident injures one

Miller County EMS, fire and rescue, Miller County sheriff’s deputies and the Georgia State Patrol were dispatched to the scene.

The accident report stated that Wesley Shane Smith,36, of Colquitt was traveling south on GA 91. He was attempting to make a right turn onto GA 273 when he lost control and ran off the south shoulder of GA 273. The vehicle struck a fence with its front end causing it to overturn. The vehicle came to an uncontrolled final rest on its left side facing west.

The owner of the vehicle, Betty Jo Smith, stated that the brakes were going out, and the driver may have been using the emergency brakes to slow down.

The victim had to be extricated from the vehicle. The report stated he was wearing safety equipment at the time of the accident.

Smith was taken to Southeast Alabama Medical Center by the Miller County EMS with visible injuries.

He was cited for too fast for conditions. The vehicle received extensive damage and was left at the scene (residence).

Trooper D.M. Fretwell of the GSP, Colquitt Post was the investigating officer.
