WILLIE RUTH MCCALVIN
Mrs. Willie Ruth Mc- Calvin, age 90, of Donalsonville passed away Friday, March 5, 2010, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.
Funeral services for Mrs. McCalvin were held on Sunday, March 7, at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville with Dr. Ron McCaskill, Rev. Andy Merritt, and Rev. Eric Boomer officiating. Interment followed in Friendship Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were James Turner, Marty McCalvin, Ricky Martin, Ridgeway Stone, Ivey Hill, and Bubba Chance.
Mrs. McCalvin was born in Houston County, AL, on February 22, 1920, to the late Joseph and Lessie Elizabeth Arnold Sanders. She was a homemaker and well known for her poetry that she wrote for the Donalsonville News. She had also been a member of the Garden Club and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Joe (Joyce) Mc- Calvin, Donalsonville; four daughters, Nellie (Eddie) Lynn Donalsonville, Shirley Oder, Tallahassee, FL, Betty (Ivy) Hill, Tallahassee, FL, Elizabeth Keen, Dothan, AL; two brothers, Lee Sanders, Toms River, New Jersey, George Sanders, Mexico Beach, FL; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Lessie Elizabeth Arnold Sanders; her husband, Luther McCalvin; three brothers, Clyde Sanders, John Sanders, and Charles Tew; two sisters, Claudia Richardson, and Clemmie Sanders; a son-in-law, Ben Oder; and a daughter-in-law, Vinie McCalvin.
Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
