We enjoy "bragging" about our home folks, and since Lynn Clearman Johnson is formerly of Colquitt and the daughter of Luther and Barbara Clearman of Colquitt, let the bragging begin.

For the first time in recent memory, Cairo High School can boast of having two STAR Students at the same time. Graduating seniors Jennifer Donalson and Jessica Norris both recorded the same score on the SAT, the highest of any of their CHS peers.

The girls, who also happen to be best friends, tied with a score of 1,830 on the three-part test, and chose as their STAR Teachers, Lynn Johnson and Celia Bass.

Cairo Rotary and the Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce honored all four recently for their achievements.

Donalson selected Lynn Johnson as her STAR Teacher. "When I see her in the hall, she's always smiling, always asking how my day is. She brightens my day," Donalson says of her Algebra I and II teacher.

Mrs. Johnson, whose classroom was near that of Jennifer's mother, Tammy Donalson, currently CHS instructional coordinator, says she has known Jennifer since she was a baby.

"In second grade, she came into my room and drew a triangle on my board and said, “This is an isosceles triangle,” and she proceeded then to tell me all about it. The years flew by, and then I turned around, and she was sitting in my Algebra I class. She is the most well-rounded student I've ever taught," Mrs. Johnson says of Donalson.

Lynn has been teaching for 29 years and followed in the footsteps of her mother, a retired Miller County teacher.

Congratulations go to Lynn and Jennifer as well as Jessica and Celia for this honor.
