PHILLIP LOYE BLOUNT SR.

Phillip Loye Blount Sr. age 71, of the Providence Community passed away at home with his family by his side on February 27, 2010, after a brave and lengthy battle with multiple myeloma.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, March 2, at 2:00 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church in Greensboro, FL.

Phillip was born November 17, 1938, in Tallahassee, FL, the son of Vernon D. and Mabel C. Smith Blount of Greensboro FL. He graduated from Greensboro High School in 1956, and joined the National Guard serving from 1957 – 1962. He married Mary Louise Betts January 30, 1964. He retired in 2003 as a sergeant with the State of Florida Department of Corrections after 25 years of service. He was also active in farming for most of his life having grown tobacco, various row crops and operated a poultry farm enterprise.

He lived all his life in Gadsden County, was a member of the Providence Baptist Church and the Florida Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Louise Betts Blount of Providence Community; one daughter, Rebekah L. Blount O’Bryan, Sawdust Community; three sons, Blaine S. Blount of Tallahassee, FL, William S. Blount and wife Robin of Blountstown, FL and Phillip L. Blount Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; his father, Vernon D. Blount of Greensboro, FL; two brothers Charles D. Blount of Pompano Beach, FL, and Vernon N. Blount of Greensboro, FL; six grandchildren: Jon Sol, Ethan, Zack, Dillon, Kylee and Seth, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother, Roderick D. Blount.

Cox Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
