Senior Center Valentine king and queen chosen

by Priscilla McVey

King and Queen, Buren and Cleo Mock King and Queen, Buren and Cleo Mock On Friday, February 12, 2010, the Senior Center chose a new Valentine King and Queen for the new year.

The ballot box was placed a week in advance, and as each one cast his or her vote for favorites, there was much talk about who might be this year’s winners. Many of them voted early while others took their time in deciding their choice. After counting the votes, the announcement was made that Ms. Cleo Mock had been chosen as queen and Mr. Buren Mock as King. To honor them, Ms. Cleo received a long stem red rose, and Mr. Buren received a red boutonniere.

The two of them have been a part of the center for several years and are well loved by all. As I was writing this article, I asked Ms. Cleo to give me a little history on their years together.

She stated that they had dated while she was in the last year of high school and when she graduated in 1948, they were married. To this union, three children were born two girls and one boy, Janet Hicks, Bud Mock and Rita Cobb. In June, they will have been married for 62 years.

The center continued celebrating their day with games, prizes for everyone and lots of fun. The day ended with a special lunch.
