Up The Creek Without A Paddle
There is a lot going on in this City of Colquitt, County of Miller, State of Georgia and U.S.A. Most folks, including "ye scribe," say, "I'm just one person. What can one person do to help?"
To answer that age-old question, it could be everything, or nothing!
This past week, my first wife started getting out, from being very sick for almost four months, from near death for weeks, to almost complete recovery. If at anytime, she had given up, we would have lost her. If the individual prayers and those of entire churches hadn't interceded for her, she would not have made it.
We have elected boards making decisions, some good and some bad, that will affect every man, woman and child in this community, state and nation. Most of the good is done from work, study and determination to make things better. Most of the bad is made from individual desires of selfishness and want for more power to control individuals, groups, communities and even more. Because some people hold a position of "power" or authority, they seem to get away with more. Instead of using what they have for good, some are not able to lead without trying to control everything. In the past weeks, months and year from national, state and local, this has happened. More Government, Less People.
We citizens, with only one vote, seem to sit unconcerned by and allow our leaders to usurp power and control without trying to stop them from taking away freedoms that have been fought for over 200 years.
We have seen our president and his Democratic stooges spend us into a pauper nation in less than one year, and his party allows his every move. That is until one man ran for office and changed the direction from being a Socialist nation back to being a Republic.
It seems that on the state level, a Republican leader is pushing to give one person the say over who will lead this state by taking away the voting rights of the citizens, and a governor appointing the leadership. Hopefully, this will be voted down by the people of this state.
It seems that our county leaders want to help two or three or their bunch obtain the power of every elected office, along with your very right to vote. If someone hadn't gotten word to our two state leaders that this was not what the people of this county wanted, it would have been a done deal, and our voting rights would have been changed for the worse. One person did this.
It seems that some of our elected city and county leaders think that because of their offices they can run an illegal business that allows young and old to get together and drink, fight, cut, stab and shoot. These establishments should have been closed 10 years ago. They are not licensed, and they are illegal. Some of these who run these businesses don't even pay their taxes and are elected officials who vote what we should pay.
Sounds like we have a lot wrong, and we do. This can be fixed by voting or putting them out of office one vote at a time or one signature at a time. Government should be for people, not politicians grabbing power.
We have much more good going on than bad. By and large, this is a community, county, state and nation of faith in one God.
Just this past week, I went to a new cattle show, a hog show, a pageant, new business openings and several school functions. Most were good for our community and our young people. Most were about individuals getting together as groups to help make things better.
I would be at more this week, including the City meeting, but my priorities have been changed as I go to be with one of my children for surgery. I ask for your individual prayers for Tammy. Prayers work.
Individuals, one at a time, make all the difference, especially when they work with others to make it better for all of us.
God is good all the time. All the time, God is good.
