On Tuesday, January 19, the Pelham Lady Hornets buzzed into Colquitt with high hopes of defeating our Lady Pirates, but it did not happen. Senior Katrina Crankfield came on strong scoring a total of 25 points with 17 coming from the second half. As for the Dynamic Duo Sisters, Sukena Diamond scored 8 points, while sister Salina Diamond added 7 points. Octavia Kierce was the top scorer for the Lady Hornets with 12 points while Pelham’s D’Ambria Thomas was held only to just eight points. The final score was Miller County Lady Pirates, 47, to Pelham Lady Hornets, 31.

In the boys’ game it is always a high flying, fast moving excitement with fans getting “crunk”! Senior Cosby Salters was the top scorer with 22 points, hitting two three pointers in the final 10 seconds of the game. Senior Will Martin was the next highest scorer for the Pirates with 16 points. Martin stole Pelham’s dream attempt at a last second shot, giving the win to Miller County. Pelham’s top scorers were Lester Moore with 14 points and Darius Thomas with 9 points. The final score was Miller County Pirates, 56, to Pelham Hornets, 53.

The ball is up and good! The ball is up and good! On Wednesday, January 26, our boys and girls hosted Quitman, and in the girls’ game Katrina Crankfield was dynamite in scoring 14 points and having 8 assists as she along with Sukena Diamond, Salina Diamond, Amber Lovering, Antrenette Roseborough, Ulbrika Daniels, and Morgan Mock dominated Quitman girls. Miller County got an extra spark from Antrenette Roseborough who finished with 12 points. The final score was Miller County Lady Pirates, 52, to Quitman girls, 15.

In the boys’ game, Miller County dominated as Senior Will Martin scored a game high 21 points, while Makel Price scored a career high thus far of 20 points. Marquez Shuler scored 14 points; Jeremy Stevens scored 14 points, and Freshman Jacoby Jones hitting 10 points.

Our Lady Pirates hosted the Baker County’s Lady Bears, and again our Lady Pirates controlled all four quarters. Senior Sukena Diamond was the top scorer with 14 points, followed by her younger sister, Salina Diamond, with 12 points. Ulbrika Daniels added 11 points while Antrenette Roseborough cntributed 7 points. Amber Lovering and Katrina Crankfield each added five points to seal the win, 60-16.

On Tuesday, February 2, our girls hosted the Seminole County Lady Indians. This was a tough game for our girls as they came up short with the final score, 56-37. Senior Katrina Crankfield was the top scorer with 17 points, and senior Sukena Diamond followed with 13 points. Lady Indian Alexus Watson was the top scorer with 19 points.

On Friday, January 5, our boys and girls hosted Randolph Clay for their last home of the regular season. In the girls’ game, Randolph Clay defeated our Lady Pirates with the final score of 72-53. Our Lady Pirates played stronger in this game than the game up in Randolph Clay earlier in the season. Katrina Crankfield was the top scorer with 18 points, followed by Sukena Diamond with a total of 17 points with five shots being three-pointers; Antrenette Roseborough scored a total of 14 points with 4 shots being three- pointers.

In the boys’ game, Randolph Clay played stronger here on our court than they did earlier in the season. Our boys held the lead the entire game, but it was in the fourth quarter that RC began to come on stronger, and we were making some foolish mistakes, but our seniors stepped up and pulled out a win with the final score of Miller County, 60, and RC, 53. Senior Will Martin scored 23 points, hitting 3 threepointers and was 8 for 12 at the free throw line. Senior Zenario Shuler scored 11 points, hitting 3 threepointers, and senior Cosby Salters scored 16 points hitting 2 three-pointers and was 6 out of 6 at the free throw line. RC’s Timothy Stringer was the top scorer with 14, followed by Shaq Nunnally with 13 and Zuriel Muhummad hitting 12 points.

Our basketball teams will be traveling to Webster County this coming Tuesday evening to play their last regular season game of 2010. Play-offs will follow probably the following weekend.
