Two vehicle accident injures one

One vehicle rear-ended goes to the ditch. One vehicle rear-ended goes to the ditch. An accident occurred on the corner of North First and Geer streets Friday, February 5, at 3:15 p.m. Police, fire /rescue and EMS were dispatched to the scene.

The incident happened as Edwin Joe Cleveland, 55, of 123 Roberts Lane, was travelling north on Frist Street/ SR 45 in his 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck.

Cleveland was following Sharon R. Braswell, 52, of 2078 Ga Hwy 91 North, on her 1992 Toyota Celica. Mrs. Braswell had stopped on First Street waiting for traffic to pass so that she could make a left turn on Geer Street.

Cleveland’s truck struck her vehicle in the rear pushing it across the roadway of the south lane and into a ditch of water on the corner of northwest corner of First and Geer streets.

The accident was attributed to Mr. Cleveland. The contributing factors were listed on the incident report as too fast for conditions and following too close.

Captain Dan Stone assists with accident investigation. Captain Dan Stone assists with accident investigation. Mrs. Braswell was treated at the scene for injuries listed as complaint. She was taken by private vehicle to the hospital to be checked. Mr. Cleveland was not injured.

The truck sustained moderate damaged and the auto sustained extensive damage. Both vehicles were towed by wreckers.

The investigating officer was Charles Griffin. No citations were issued.
