One of our heroes injured in Afghanistan

by Terry Toole

David Barwick David Barwick Editor's note: The following is a note from the father of one of our many heroes who are in "harm’s way." We have requested letters from our service people, photos and parental reports from these men and women.

Hey, this is Kent, just wanted to give you all an update on David, (my son in whom I am well pleased). Please pray for him and all who protect this place we call home, the USA.

I have been asked by several people about the location and occupation of David. As well, David has asked that I pass along the following information. As of right now, he is somewhere in the desert of Afghanistan; more specifically, the desolate plain in southern Helmand province that Afghans call the "desert of death". The official name of the camp is Camp Leatherneck, which is primarily a camp for the Marines.

His primary duty is avionics; (mechanical, electrical) repairs on helicopters. He has been temporarily reassigned to detainee guard duty for a month. This happens to most of the Marines regardless of their main job duty.

David was injured in a bus accident on Friday. The bus transports them to the work site. David said there was a terrible rain storm, and the driver lost control and rolled the bus. He got a few stitches in his left thigh, but all is well. There were no serious injuries from this accident.

He asks that we please continue to remember them in prayer as a major offensive is set to take place. The Marines will move in and secure an area called Marjah. The offensive is expected to come sometime in the next week or so and will serve as the Marines’ latest challenge in Helmand Province. So please be in prayer for all that are involved in this next move.

As we gather in our homes, churches and any other places, please give thanks for those who make it possible.

Thanks -- Kent

The Rev. Kent and Cheryl Barwick are the parents of David Barwick. Brother Kent is the pastor of Colquitt Free Will Baptist Church.
