Bainbridge - Sheriff’s Investigators made a traffic stop on Wednesday evening, and after speaking with CJ Hamilton for a moment, he sped off in an attempt to get away.

Sheriff’s Captain Chip Nix and Investigators Julian Crowder and Brian Donalson stopped Hamilton on Airport Road.

When he was asked to step from the car, he must have heard step on the gas because he took off. Hamilton got to Dothan Road and turned towards Bainbridge.

By this time deputies had him back in sight and chased the Mercury under the bypass to the intersection. Fortunately the light was red, and with cars stopped in front of him, Hamilton had nowhere to go.

In a search of the vehicle, investigators found a pistol, razor knife and over $6,000 in cash. Sheriff’s Sgt. Ed Moorhead brought K9 Rony to the scene and checked the car. The dog hit on Hamilton’s jacket, but no drugs were found. It is typical that when a suspect runs with no outstanding warrant on him, it is to dispose of any drugs on his person before getting caught.

Deputies walked from the scene back to Airport Road and proceeded to search each side of the roadway for about a half mile. They discovered marijuana that had been discarded along the road.

CJ Hamilton was arrested for attempting to elude and other traffic offenses.
