SGA JV Boys Win Region Tournament
8th Graders: #5 Teel Massey, #23 McKinley Chambless, #34 Brandon Brookins, #4 Tristan Moulton, #32 Colby Still, #40 Austin Henley, #24 Clayton Bowen, #22 Davis Ponder,#2 Will Warren; 7th Graders: #15 Paxton Adams, #11 Jesse Williams, #20 Logan Hornsby, #10 Perry Bridges, #0 Tanner Powell, #31 K.D. Sizemore, and #3 Reid O’Hearn
The SGA middle school team traveled to Windsor Academy in Macon to take part in the 3AA Region Tournament. The Warriors opened up against the Valwood Valiants for Valdosta. SGA came out on fire, out-scoring the Valiants 20-1 in the first quarter. The Warriors cruised to a 44-14 victory in the first round of the tournament. They were led in scoring by Tristan Moulton with 14 points and McKinley Chambless with 12 points.
The Warriors then went on to face undefeated Tiftarea Academy from Tifton in the Region Championship game. The game was back and forth the entire game. With the Warriors up one with under a minute left, SGA 8th grader Colby Still stepped up to the free throw line and hit two free throws to give the Warriors the 3 point advantage. The Warriors defense held strong over the last minute and defeated Tiftarea 47-44. SGA was led in scoring by McKinley Chambliss with 24 points and Colby Still with 8 points. Eighth graders McKinley Chambless and Teel Massey were selected to the All-Region Tournament team.
The Warriors finished the season 10-3. “I don’t think I have ever been prouder of a group of boys, they worked hard every day and all their effort paid off with a region title,” said SGA Coach David Byrne.
