McLendon-Tabb Farm in MC recognized as GA historic farm

The 2009 Georgia Centennial Farm Awards presentation was held in Perry during the opening day of the Georgia National Fair on October 8, 2009. The McLendon-Tabb farm, located in Miller County, was one of nine family farms receiving this honor.

The Georgia Centennial Farm Program was developed in 1992 to distinguish those farms, and farm families, who have contributed to preserving Georgia’s agriculture resources. In addition, the program seeks to encourages the continued use of these farms for future generations.

The Centennial Family Farm Award recognizes farms owned by members of the same family for over 100 years or more that are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

The McLendon-Tabb farm has been in the same family since 1870 and was last owned and operated by Buck and Estelle Tabb. The present owners are Bobby and Joy Tabb.

Miller County has three farms listed in the Historic Farms Program: 1996 - The Weaver Farm, owner Mary B. Weaver Walker; 2005 - The L&M Kinder Farm, owner J. Kinder; and 2009 - The McLendon-Tabb Farm, owners Bobby and Joy Tabb.
