PATRICK F. SAMMON

Mr. Patrick F. Sammon III, age 83, of Colquitt and Panama City Florida, died Sunday, January 17, 2010, at Gulf Coast Medical Center, after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 20, at 11:00 a.m. at Colquitt Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be John McGoogan, Joe Johnson, Scot Roberts, Mark Miller, Robert Wilkin, Edwin Wilkin, Parks Callan and Ronnie Rentz.

Mr. Sammon was born February 15, 1926, in New York City. He was the son of the late Patrick and Cecelia Sammon. He settled in Colquitt in 1949, after marrying Dorothy Sheffield, whom he had met while serving in the Air Force at Turner Field in Albany. Mr. Sammon was an active member of the community. He was the owner of Pat Sammon Chevrolet for 37 years. In addition, Mr. Sammon owned an insurance and real estate business.

Mr. Sammon had many varied interests. He was an avid flyer and collector of flying memorabilia. He enjoyed sailing and golf. Mr. Sammon was a member of the Colquitt United Methodist Church and the Masons.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Sheffield Sammon, Colquitt; three children, Jan McGoogan (John), Atlanta, Patrick (Donna) Sammon, Colquitt, Stacey (Boyd) Johnson, Atlanta; six grandchildren, Katherine McGoogan Weeks, John McGoogan, Ashley Sammon, Anna Johnson, Molly Johnson, Joe Johnson; one greatgranddaughter, Adair Sheffield Weeks; and one sister, Eleanor Sammon Ryan, Hollywood, Florida.

Colquitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
